Hey Tom,

We had 90-degree days at lower elevations in Death Valley in mid-May, so I think second half of March should be reasonably mild and may have more water, although the water could be cold hiking in it (it’s shallow but we wore sandals). It’s hard to get to higher elevations because the roads often aren’t passable until sometime in spring. But this backpacking trip should be accessible.

Good luck.

Is the second half of March too early? We are interested in doing something in Death Valley instead of southern utah this spring.

It’s a much easier hike. More of a long day stroll than a hike. Only took me 5 years or so of visiting Death Valley and driving by it to get there. Water is deeper and I did get to watch a frog climb the Falls.

Hey Matt, I’ll have to get over to Darwin Falls next time I’m in Death Valley.

Though DF is much easier to get to.
