In reply to Nancy Wood. Hi Nancy, we had skied Canyon's trails during a one-day snowcoach tour from the Mammoth Inn. The ski trails in the northern sector of the park are most easily accessed from Mammoth (and the road's open for cars), while trails from West Yellowstone to Old Faithful can be reached on a snowcoach day trip from West Yellowstone. Canyon has been reached via snowcoach from either Mammoth or West or Old Faithful in the past, but that depends on the snowcoach operators.

Thanks for this great article. Were you able to do all of the ski trails mentioned while staying in West Yellowstone or did you stay overnight at the Snow Lodge? it looks like Xanterra is no longer running to trips to Canyon. Most of their trips this year seem to only go from the Snow Lodge.

You’re welcome, Judy. Winter is much less crowded in Yellowstone. Note that the park’s thermal features aren’t the sort of hot springs where you’d soak, though. It’s not legal or safe.
