Hi Katrina,

Thanks for the compliment and I see you can obviously relate to this story. It sounds like you’re going to raise kids who love the outdoors like ours do, both of them young adults (in college). Good for you.

The third week of November may be pushing the season; the weather could go either way then and it’s a bit of a gamble. I’ll email you with more thoughts about that and my Custom Trip Planning.

Thanks for the question.

We bring our little kids everywhere! We have a 6, 3, and 18 month and we get the same comments from others too!! Our kids love being on a trail! My two younger are still being carried in a backpack but our 6 year old is ready for an overnight backcountry trip for sure! But, for now my husband and I and another couple want a quick getaway. We are looking to see about a backcountry trip the third weekend in November in Zion. Is that a possibility? We are much more familiar with the Northwest but obviously there’s to much snow. But we’d love to get one last trip in before the year’s end and thought maybe Zion might be an option! What are your thoughts? We could use some help planning this trip!

Thanks for pointing out that error, Jeff, I’ve now corrected it. And thanks for renewing your subscription to The Big Outside, I appreciate it.

I figured out my error; my payment information had expired and my subscription had evidently lapsed. I corrected this. One possible correction. Your article says “apply for a backcountry permit promptly at 10 a.m. Mountain time on the 5th of the month, two months prior to the month in which you want to take your trip—for example, apply on Feb. 5 for a trip in April.”

But I think it is one month prior, not two. For example, apply on Feb 5 for permits in March, etc.

I am planning this for early May. Your article mentions “(See the Make It Happen section, below this story.)”. But I don’t see such a section? I am a subscriber to The Big Outside and am logged in. Would like to read that section too if it is available.
