Thanks Kayle. I get to the Whites almost every summer, usually in June, even though I live in the West now. Have fun.

You’ve painted such a vivid picture of your experiences and what to expect of the place. Really love every bit of detail!

You are indeed a strong hiker. Great to hear about people getting their kids outside. It is hard but one of the goals of the AMC is to get children to appreciate the out of doors. Go parents and encourage the hiking so the next generation will understand how important our beautiful mountain environment is to the soul. BT

Thanks for sharing that story. What a laudable goal to hit all the huts with your kids. I have not yet taken my kids on a hut trip in the Whites, though we have dayhiked there. I’d like to take them on a hut trip sometime in the next few years, especially to see the foliage at its peak. Thanks for the comment.

Our goal is to hit all the huts before they go off to college. We had to postpone it for this summer to camp in the Whites with our new puppy who has become a fantastic hiker. I quickly learned last year that our planned route of Lonsome Lake to Greenleaf huts was physically challenging and that AMC’s trail rating is very different than hiking in the Shenandoah’s where we are used to. However, I am very proud of my kids as they continue to challenge themselves on the trails this summer in the Adirondacks. Have you shared the huts and hiking in the Whites with your kids? Thank you for sharing your perspective about the Whites.

Must have just missed you by a week or two! I’m originally from Plymouth, MA and happened to run into a writer for the local (MA) newspaper who was staying there as well and writing an article about the history and experience of the huts. You can find it here: http://www.wickedlocal.com/plymouth/topstories/x624126197/TOWN-COMMONS-High-huts-in-the-White-Mountains-offer-shelter-camaraderie-for-trail-weary-trampers

Keep up the inspired writing. Thanks to you my list of “bucket list” hikes keeps on growing.
