Hi Peter,

It’s a wonderful trek. Besseggen is definitely the busiest part of this trek by far because of its fame and the easy access to the two huts at either end of that ridge trail. Most of the huts are reached by road so many of the guests arrive there in vehicles and few seem to walk very far from any of the huts. We certainly saw other trekkers every day but people mostly spread out once an hour or two beyond any hut and it was never as busy as some Euro trails I’ve been on, like those above Grindelwald in Switzerland or much of the Tour du Mont Blanc.

My one suggestion to you is that the trails may be snow-covered until around mid-July, sometimes later, so you may want to check with hutkeepers for reports on trail conditions.

Good luck and enjoy it. Thanks for the question.

My names Peter, I really enjoy multiday treks and am thinking about doing Jotunheimen in a few weeks time.

I was curious, how busy is the trail / hike after Besseggen? I’d seen the cabins can house a lot of people and was wondering what your experience was like.

Appreciate any insights you can share.

Cheers,
Peter

Way cool that you and your mom and now kids get to share experiences like these. Looking into a similar trek for this summer, so appreciate the details!

Hi Mitch,

While this is the only trek I’ve done in Norway, I have another on my list that I hope to do in the near future. I’ve done extensive trip planning already on the hiking around Norway’s Hjørundfjord in the Sunnmøre Alps, beginning from Ålesund. Google photos of that area, it’s stunning. I almost went last summer, but the timing wasn’t quite right. I hope you’ll see me writing about that trip before too long. Thanks for the question.

This is a great article! Thank you.

I’m planning to go to Norway this summer and interested in other multi-day treks. Do you know of any others besides this one?

Thanks,
Mitch

The video was fab. Your descriptions are awesome and you pepper them with just enough heartfelt introspection to take this beyond the standard, boring travel genre. What a lucky woman your mom is to have you nudging her along!
